Contribute to a shared vision of education that is more inclusive, participatory, and transformative.
Across the globe, schools and organizations are recognizing the power of youth engagement in shaping more effective, democratic learning environments. Meaningful youth engagement is also recognized as essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It operationalizes the guiding principles set out in the Recommendation on Education for Peace and Human Rights, International Understanding, Cooperation, Fundamental Freedoms, Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development (2023), which calls on education systems to recognize, “without discrimination, that all students actively create, co-create and disseminate knowledge”. Thishandbook operationalizes this commitment and aligns with the Youth Declaration on Transforming Education, launched at the United Nations during the Transforming Education Summit. This global movement truly comes alive in the everyday practices of individual schools—each small step taken by teachers and students contributes to a shared vision of education that is more inclusive, participatory, and transformative. This handbook outlines practical steps to become part of this movement, ensuring that schools not only meet academic benchmarks but also empower youth as active participants in their education and society at large.
